Inclined Plane

Inclined planes are one type of simple machine that are used to make our lives easier. They are slanted surfaces that objects can sit on, slide up, slide down, roll up, or roll down. Inclined planes can also be called ramps. There are many different inclined planes that are used, including wedges and screws. Wedges are two inclined planes back to back, while a screw is one long inclined plane wrapped around a axle. *Khan Academy, n.d.; Carr, 2017

Inclined planes can help us lift things to a higher level more easily, but with the saved effort comes a longer distance. This means that the actual amount of work stays the same, but the force is spread out over a longer distance. *Tomecek, 2007
